Here is the official list of undergraduate, diploma and certificate courses offered at the Natural Resources Development College, NRDC with detailed information on entry Requirements and study mode.

Natural Resources Development College (NRDC) is a tertiary training institution under the Ministry of Agriculture. NRDC was established in 1965 to provide training in agriculture and other related disciplines.

NRDC offers 3‐year Diploma programs underwritten (or certified) by the University of Zambia (UNZA). The College offers the following Diploma courses:

  • Diploma in Agriculture: This has four specializations or majors namely 
    • Agribusiness Management (ABM);
    • Animal Science (AS); Cashew Production and
    • Technology (CPT); and Crop Science (CS);
  • Diploma in Agricultural Education & Extension (ED)
  • Diploma in Agricultural Engineering (AE)
  • Diploma in Fisheries and Aquaculture (FS)
  • Diploma in Food and Nutrition (FN)
  • Diploma in Horticulture (HM), and
  • Diploma in Water Engineering (WE)

Duration of training is three academic years

SHORT TERM COURSES

NRDC also offers short term tailor‐made courses on request from interested organizations. 

ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for admission at NRDC, applicants must have at least credits in English, Math, any Science, and two other subjects. Applicants for Food and Nutrition must have Credits or better in English, Math, Science, Biology (or Agric. Science), and any other subject. Holders of 2‐years college certificates also qualify for admission in courses related to such certificates.

A non‐refundable application processing fee of K250 for Zambian and SADC citizens (or K350 for non‐SADC citizens) must be paid as part of the application process. This fee should be paid by cash deposit in the NRDC Business account, Account number 1166700300144, ZANACO, Twin Palm Branch, Lusaka. Application forms can be obtained from the College campus (Lusaka), or downloaded from the college website www.nrdc.biz Admission is on first come first serve basis.

FULL‐TIME MODE

Full‐time students are enrolled under two categories:

Regular Program: In this mode students are enrolled as boarders but can also opt to be day scholars.

Parallel Program: This is a second stream of fulltime students. Students in this mode are enrolled only on day scholar basis who make their own accommodation arrangements with various boarding houses around the college.

DISTANCE LEARNING MODE

This is an alternative to full‐time study. Learning is mainly by self‐study with the help of materials provided by the college. Students are however required to attend a 4‐weeks residential school in each semester. During this period, students report to the college in order to attend classes, and also to participate in practical sessions at the college farm, laboratories, and the engineering workshop. The residential school is also used to conduct assessment tests and examinations.
